Shonda Mason wants to know what happened the night her son was killed.

His body was found laying in the road, dumped from a car on a dark city street. He was one of dozens of annual victims of gang violence in Chattanooga: another dead teenager whose case remains unsolved because witnesses refused to talk.

There is a code of silence in Chattanooga. When someone kills your own, you don't rely on the police. You handle it yourself, and you keep your mouth shut.

The code is ingrained in the community. It stems from a long history of messy neighborhood relationships with police, their lack of trust that the justice system works for them, and fears of reprisals by gang members against witnesses. Shonda had followed it for her entire life, but suddenly, her son was dead. She wants justice, but she isn't sure the code can be broken.
